Abstract

757,628. Ratchet gearing. BOSE, E. R. Jan. 13, 1954 [Jan. 15, 1953]. No. 1029/54. Class 80(3) [Also in Group V] In a machine for making boards by compressing particles between moving belts (see Group V) the belts are moved hydraulically by pairs of pistons and cylinders, one pair on each side of the machine. Push rods 47, 47<SP>1</SP> are pivoted to the end of the connecting rod 46 and have semi-circular recesses 49, 49<SP>1</SP> at their ends. Flanges 41, 41<SP>1</SP> are fixed to extensions from the belt pulleys at each side of the machine and have pins 42, 42<SP>1</SP> with which the recesses 49, 49<SP>1</SP> engage, the rod 47 dropping into engagement by gravity and the rod 47<SP>1</SP> being moved into engagement by a spring 48<SP>1</SP>. Linear movement of the connecting rod 46 therefore causes rotary movement of the pulleys. The movements of the two pistons of a pair are alternate so that, while one is performing its power stroke, the other is on the return stroke.
