Abstract

756,956. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Oct. 7, 1953 [Oct, 8, 1952], No. 27507/53. Class 8(1). Nozzle height adjusting means for a hand propelled cleaner comprises an adjustable stop 35 progressively movable through a series of positions and arranged to limit the movement of an adjustable axle carrying the wheels 25, relative to the cleaner body, and an operating member 65 arranged first to relieve the stop 35 of its load then to move the stop to a new position and finally to restore the load to the stop. The stop 35 comprises grooves 43 of various radii from the centre and is rotatably mounted on the body; an extension 56 on the adjustable axle rests in one of these grooves. The member 65 is pivoted to the body at 67 and when the pedal 70 is pressed fulcrums on the extension 56 to raise the stop 35 therefrom and subsequently a projection 76 on the member 65 engages the stop 35 to move it round one groove. The stop incorporates a height indicator.
