Abstract

756,519. Collapsible tower cranes. SCHWING, F. W. Sept. 7, 1954 [Sept. 7, 1953], No. 25893/54. Class 78 (4). The sections of the jib and tower of a folding tower crane are hinged so that they do not all fold in the same plane. As illustrated, the jib 9, 10 can be folded down against the tower 3, 6 so that hinges 7, 7, 11, 11 are in line to permit both to be folded, when suitable connections have been undone, transversely of the crane. They may then be folded together about a hinge 4 when a connection 5 has been released. The coincidence of the hinges 7 and 11 when the jib is lowered to the position shown in broken lines may be achieved by making the jib as broad as the mast, by setting the hinge 11 in lugs extending laterally from the jib, or by providing an inclined luffing pivot 13.
