Abstract

756,090. Hot-water boilers ; hot water supply systems; heating buildings. OSPELT, G. April 2, 1954 [April 10, 1953 ; March 19, 1954], No. 9699/54. Classes 64(1) and 64(2). In a boiler comprising a water jacket 101 around the sides and top of a combustion chamber 109 and a draw-off water heater 116 above the jacket, an auxiliary water heater 113 in the combustion chamber 109 communicates with the water jacket 101 and has an outlet pipe 131. This pipe and the inlet pipe 118 of a hollow immersion heater 117 in the water heater 116 are so arranged in relation to the water jacket that both pipes communicate with the latter and water flows from the auxiliary water heater 113 to the immersion heater 117. In the form shown, the auxiliary heater 113 encloses a chamber through which the hot gases flow around a hollow partition 114 to an outlet 107. A cleaning door 130 is provided opposite the fuel door 106. The pipe 131 extends up inside the pipe 118 to give an injector action. Auxiliary electric heaters 120 are provided in the tank 116. The jacket 101 is connected to radiators through flow and return pipes 104, 103. Part of the return water mixes with hot water entering the flow pipe ; a manually and thermostatically operated valve 137 controls the proportions. The remainder of the return-water flows through a passage 133 to the bottom of the jacket ; baffles 136 are so disposed that it entrains hot water from the top of the jacket. In another form, the flow pipe from the auxiliary water heater opens into the top of the jacket, and the inlet pipe of the tank heating element is of smaller diameter than that flow pipe and projects into the latter. In oil-fired modifications of these two forms, the auxiliarywater heater is of inverted L-shape, and comprises a vertical tube or hollow body and an adjoining horizontal hollow plate at the top.
