In a racing vehicle the air-cooled engine cylinder axis, or axes in the case of a multicylinder air-cooled engine, is or are tilted backwards relative to a vertical line A-B through the transverse crank-shaft 11 to an angle not exceeding 45 degrees and so that the induction passage 5 of the carburettor mounted on and behind the engine is substantially horizontal and the throttle chamber 6 substantially vertical. The inclination thus given to engine cooling fins 7 is stated to enhance their efficiency. The invention is stated to be applicable to racing cars and to motor cycles both of the 500 c.c. classes.
