Abstract
755,800. Lawn-mowers. SHANKS & SON, Ltd., A. Sept. 3, 1954, No. 25609/54. Class 6 (2). In a mowing machine the cutting cylinder 5 and the ledger blade are carried by a frame consisting of two gear-boxes 3 secured together by an axle 2 and supported by ground wheels 4, towing linkage 1 being pivoted to the axle 2 and carrying locking mechanism for securing the cutting cylinder in adjusted position for varying the closeness of the cut, feeler rollers 12, 19 being also provided in front of and behind the cutting cylinder. A rod 7 is secured to the axle 2 and is connected by a link 8 to a handle 9 having a projection engageable with holes in a quadrant plate 10 to hold the cutting cylinder and ledger plate in adjusted position. The roller 12 is mounted in arms 13 connected to the arm 7 so that the cutting- cylinder is raised when the roller 12 meets an undulation in the ground, a spring on the link 8 permitting the movement and serving to restore the cylinder to its former position. The rollers 19 are mounted on the gear-boxes. A bracket 22 is provided for connection to the following member of a gang of machines.
