Abstract

Silica bricks are made by mixing ground silica with lime and a metal salt solution which by reaction with the lime precipitates metal hydroxide, shaping and firing, whereby the resulting metal oxide reacts with the silica and increases the glass content. Salts specified are ferrous sulphate, ferric chloride and nitrate and manganous sulphate. Specification 755,514 is referredALSO:Refractory silica bricks are made by mixing ground silica with lime and a metal salt solution which by reaction with the lime precipitates metal hydroxide, shaping and firing, whereby the resulting metal oxide reacts with the silica and increases the glass contents. Salts specified are ferrous, e.g. the sulphate; ferric, e.g. the chloride and nitrate; soluble salts of bi-valent metals forming, as oxides, immiscible melts with silica, e.g. manganous sulphate. Specification 755,514 is referred to.
