Abstract

1288911 Calcium silicate ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 10 Sept 1969 [11 Sept 1968] 43233/68 Heading C1A [Also in Division C3] Dicalcium silicate is produced by heating together a calcareous material, a siliceous material and a natreous material in quantities such that the mixture contains from 4-35% Na 2 O and has a CaO : SiO 2 ratio of 1À6-2À4 to a temperature sufficient to cause solid state reaction of the mixture. The calcareous material may be lime, chalk, limestone or Portland cement. The siliceous material may be sand or a calcium silicate containing less than CaO per mole SiO 2 than the required product, e.g. phosphorus furnace slag. The natreous material is preferably sodium carbonate, but may be sodium oxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate or any sodium salt with an anion which is volatilized or decomposed at elevated temperature. The reaction temperature is from 750‹ to 900‹ C.
