Abstract
Ferromagnetic ferrites for use as magnetic cores are made by sintering in an atmosphere of oxygen a mechanical mixture of metallic oxides of which the iron oxide content is in the "active" state and free from alkali. The active oxide, recognizable by its light colour preferably between bordeaux red and orange, is produced by precipitating the hydrate of iron from an iron salt solution for example ferric chloride, with ammonia, and dehydrating the precipitate at a low temperature for example 105 DEG C., or by heating a solid iron compound such as ferric sulphate to produce ferric oxide, which is then mixed with, for example copper and zinc oxides and sintered at a temperature between 900 DEG and 1100 DEG C.
