755,094. Catch gear for lifts. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINEFABRIEK DER FIRMA P. M. DUYVIS & CO. Nov. 26, 1954, No. 34414/54. Class 78 (3). A brake for limiting the speed of a lift comprises a pair of friction material faced shoes 1, 2 which grip the hoisting rope (not shown) when the cage exceeds a predetermined speed. The shoe 2 is moved towards shoe 1 by a cam 13 operatively connected to a fluid pressure thruster 10 which is actuated by means (not shown) responsive to cage speed. Wedges 16 located on each side of cam 13 between the jaw 2 and rollers 15, and urged downwardly by their own weight or by a spring (not shown), lock the jaw 2 in the braking position until released manually.
