Abstract

A safety device, for use when moving heavy loads using a cable attached to the load, comprises a brake which is actuated to act on the cable if the load should fall and the speed of the cable moving through the brake becomes excessive. The device is used esp. in changing the rollers of a calender press. Safety of the operators from falling loads during movement of the load is thus improved.
