[Also in Group XXIV] In a portable sewing-machine having a free arm 2, a motor-driven shaft 5 and a main shaft 13 driven from the latter by gearing 11 extending inside the body of the machine, a lever 21<1> of known type connecting the main shaft with work-feed means is located, inside the body, between said gearing and a connecting rod 14 driving the looptaker actuating shaft. Driving.-Shaft 5 carries at one end a sleeve 6 on which is journalled a hand wheel 8 driven by a motor via a belt 8a. Wheel 8 can be coupled to sleeve 6 by means of a screw 9 and a friction disc 10. A pulley 7, carried by the other end of shaft 5, is connected by the belt 11 to a pulley 12 carried by shaft 13. Stitch-forming devices; connecting upper and lower rotary shafts.-The connecting rod 14 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 16 pivoted to the body of the machine, and connects a crankpin provided on shaft 13 with a pin 18 carried by a block 17 slidably mounted in a crank 15 fixed to the looptaker actuating shaft.
