754,973. Bridges; metal beams and connections. SOC. ANON. POUR L'INDUSTRIE DE L'ALUMINIUM. June 21, 1954 [June 20, 1953], No. 18168/54. Classes 20(1) and 20(2). A light metal beam for the roadway of a pontoon bridge is built up of an upper beam 2 carrying double headed bolts 11 to detachably secure it rigidly on the top of lower beam 1, which may be constructed with retractable pivoted lugs 4 as in Specification 746,218. The two beams are each provided with locating and interengaging teeth 17 to engage in recesses in the other. The beams are locked together by depressing the head 12 of the bolt 11 by a tool and rotating it against the pressure of a spring 15 so that its rectangular head 13 enters a slot 16 in the lower beam and then turning the bolt through 90 degrees to engage a shaped locking plate 19 inside the lower beam. Hand grips 6, Fig. 4 (not shown) with hand entry openings may be provided at the ends of both beams for carrying as in Specification 746,218.
