Abstract

754,319. Gating units. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L.M. ERICSSON. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 11, 1953], No. 32610/54. Class 40 (6). In a signal translating device employing a secondary emission electric discharge tube in which the input signal is applied to the control electrode, the output signal voltage of the dynode has the same or opposite polarity to the input signal or no output is obtained in dependence upon the value of the positive voltage applied to the dynode. Fig. 3 shows a circuit in which a positive input pulse is applied to the control grid of a multi-path secondary-emission tube three dynodes of which are connected via paralleled resistors Ra1 Ra2 (which present an effective load of Ra) to positive voltages Vo which are respectively less than, equal to and greater than the voltage Vc of the collector electrode. The dynode characteristic, Fig. 2, is such that when Vo is less than Vc an increase in cathode current caused by a positive pulse applied to the control electrode. produces an increase in dynode voltage so that a positive output pulse is obtained, similarly when Vo is equal to Vc no output is produced and when Vo is greater than Vc a positive input pulse generates a negative output pulse.
