Abstract
597,186. Photo-electric cells; electron multipliers. TRIGGS, W. W. (Farnsworth Television & Radio Corporation). Aug. 10, 1945, No. 20649. [Class 39 (i)] An electron multiplier has a shallow cupshaped photo-electric cathode 12 with a central aperture 13 through which extends the first secondary electron emitting electrode 16, which, with alternate secondary emitting electrodes 19, 21, is of cylindrical shape with concave sides. The intermediate electrodes 22, 23,24 have convex sides and overlap the others. Accelerating mesh electrodes 17, 28, 26, 29, 27, 31 are electrically connected to and disposed between each secondary electrode and the next preceding one and a mesh grid 14 is disposed over and connected to the edge of the cathode 12. The collecting electrode 25 is a flat plate. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the second secondary emissive electrode is conical in shape and is followed by box-type electrodes ; a further modification has its first secondary emissive electrode of conical shape followed by box-type electrodes, Fig. 4 (not shown).
