Abstract

The invention comprises chromium containing azo dyestuffs containing less than 2 atoms of metal per 2 molecules of dyestuff which in their metal free form are of formula <FORM:0754270/IV(c)/1> where X is Cl or Me and y is -CH2OH, -CH2OCH3, CH.OH.CH3, -CH2CH2OH or -CH2CH2OCH3. The metal free dyestuffs may be made by coupling the appropriate amines and sulphonamides subsequent metallization being effected in conventional fashion. Coupling is preferably effected in an alkaline medium, 1:2 complexes are described. The dyestuffs dye leather and nitrogenous fibres wool and silk being dyed bluish red shades. Examples illustrate the preparation and use of chromed dyestuffs from 1-hydroxy -2- amino -4- chloro- and -methyl -6- nitro-benzene and the following azo components 1-phenyl -3-methyl -5- pyrazolone -31- sulphonic acid-(311-hydroxy or methoxy)- propyl- -(211-hydroxy or methoxy -ethyl- or (211 hydroxy) propyl-amides.
