Abstract

754,046. Portable buildings. HAMER, T. E. Jan. 25. 1955 [July 2, 1954], No. 19396/54. Class 20(1). A prefabricated building e.g. a bus shelter, Fig. 11, is built up from reinforced concrete front and back wall units 10 each having an internal cantilever roof 11, bolted together and to right and left hand end units 21, the sides of the units being suitably thickened as at 19 and with holes 18 to receive the bolts. The cantilever roof parts 11 may be spaced by similar intermediate roof parts 30 bolted to cantilever flanges 16. The joint faces are grooved e.g. as at 19, Fig. 3, to receive sealing strips 36 which may be made of asbestos rope. The end units have cranked edges 25, Fig. 6 (not shown) to fit behind-the thickened edges of the front or back wall units. The roof parts 30 have central strengthening ribs 32, Fig. 10 (not shown.) All the vertical units are provided with glass windows 12 in mastic within copper angle strips 13 and held in rebates by hardwood plugs 15 cast in the concrete. All the units are reinforced with metal rods projecting at the base to fit into holes in the foundations, or they can be cut off as required by the site level.
