Abstract

753,851. Cleaning tubes. AKTIEBOLAGET A. EKSTROMS MASKINAFFAR. Jan. 21 1954 [Feb. 2, 1953], No. 1860/54. Class 99(2). In cleaning gas swept heating surfaces in boilers, superheaters, air preheaters, economisers and the like cleaning elements e.g. steel pellets or the like are periodically distributed over the heating surfaces and are projected against the latter to remove dust deposits and coatings adhering thereto whereafter the cleaning elements are returned to a position from which they may be redistributed by means of a gaseous fluid for example cool air and the return of the cleaning elements is effected continuously or for periods of time which are substantially longer than the cleaning periods in order to reduce the dimensions and the power requirements of the conveying means and to attain an intense bombardment of the heating surfaces with the bulk of the cleaning elements which have been returned since the preceding cleaning period. in application to a boiler 10, Fig. 3, cleaning pellets are supplied from a single cyclone device 11<SP>1</SP> through distributing conduits 12<SP>1</SP>. Two pockets 17<SP>1</SP> are associated with a single return conduit 14<SP>1</SP>. Cleaning takes place during a comparatively short time. The return fan 16 is however in operation either continuously or for periods of time which are considerably longer than the actual cleaning periods. As an example it is stated that a single fan will convey the pellets in 7 hours but these may be released in one hour. A valve (not shown) for release of the pellets, is provided below the device 11<SP>1</SP>, Deflecting members 13 and separators 18 are provided. The capacity of the cyclone device is sufficient for receiving essentially the whole quantity of cleaning elements. Fig. 1 shows a known cleaning installation comprising three cyclone devices 11 and three fans 16 and associated return conduits.
