A bowl 20, Figs. 1 and 2, is sub-divided by an upstanding wall 21 or walls overlain by a removable apertured lid 22 having walls 29 depending on either side of the wall 21 and forming therewith, and with webs 26 on the walls 29 and/or on the wall 21, extinguishing cells for the reception of cigarette ends via the lid aperture which may be sub-divided into corresponding cell entries 23. Lifting of the part 22 allows extinguished ends to pass from the cells into ash-receptacles 31. The cells may narrow downwardly by corresponding thickening or appropriate inclination of the walls 21, 29, and may be rectangular, round or oval in crosssection. Hoods 32 for the receptacles 31, and cigarette rests 33, are formed on the part 22. In Fig. - 5, the bowl 58 is shallow-sided except .where it closes the ends of a Y-shaped lid 52 supported thereon by its depending walls locating on shouldered portions of a Y-shaped central wall of the bowl. Ash-receptacles W and cigarette rests 59 are provided. Modifications are described in which the cells do not discharge their contents to ash-receptacles on lifting the lid. In Fig. 8 (not shown) a lid in the form of a rectangular deep-walled grid seats in a bowl formed as a rectangular tray with sloping sides and cigarette rests at each corner, and which has a central longitudinal upstanding wall replacing a corresponding grid wall. In Fig. 4 (not shown) a circular deep-walled grid seats in a cylindrical tray having cigarette rests in quadrature and parallel upstanding walls replacing alternate grid walls in one direction. In Fig. 11, which is a section through a rectangular grid and tray, such upstanding walls 122 are convolutions of the tray base and carry on one side webs 129 replacing corresponding webs of the grid 125, which has sharp upper edges and a rim L. In Fig. 13, a cylindrical bowl 150 has a circular wall 153 between its outer wall 151 and a central post 157 and receives a grid 155 with circular walls carrying webs 160 alternating circumferentially with similar webs on the wall 153. The grid 155, which may have sharp upper edges and a rim, also has half-webs 156a aligned with half-webs 158 on the post 157 and circumferentially alternate whole and half webs 156, the latter half-webs co-acting with halfwebs 152 on the wall 151. The post 157 may be dished to receive ashes or omitted together with all or.part of the webs 156a. The ash-trays may be moulded of glass or plastic, or cast.
