[Classes 81 (i) and 130] A receptacle for receiving cigarette ash, or for burning sulphur or other fumigants, asthma powder, perfumes, &c., comprises inner and outer parts detachable from one another and adapted to grip between them the edges of a sheet or strip of " silver paper " or other non-inflammable sheet material, so as to provide a surface across the inner member for receiving the ash, fumigants, &c. Fig. 2 shows an ash-tray composed of an inner member or base 1<a> having flanged edges 3 over which fits a removable frame 4 so as to grip the edges of a sheet 8 of the foil. The sheet 8 may be shaped to the form of a curved bridge piece 5, as indicated in dotted lines. In another form, a cylindrical or other shaped box has a lid with open top, across which is placed the metal foil with its edges gripped between the box and lid ; or the foil may be wrapped round the edges of a frame which fits within the top of a box and rests upon ledges therein. Again, the foil may be secured around its edge between two concentric rings and extend across the space enclosed by the inner ring. The foil also may be merely in the form of a strip extending across the centre of the tray, as shown in Fig. 9. In this form, the foil is wrapped over a perforated strip 21 and is held at its edges in beadings 22 by a second perforated strip 23. The covered strips are then placed in recesses 20 in a bowl 19, over which is placed an outer member 24. A match-box holder 27 may be attached to a central boss 26. Fig. 10 shows a cigarette or vanity case, with clamping-rings 29, 30 for the foil and a hinged lid 31. For burning fumigants &c., the foil may be stretched over a solid block of wood, china, glass, &c. Where the foil forms the lid of a box, a cigarette may be held therein by pressing the unlighted end through punctures in the foil. In another form, the foil is fitted closely to a tray with corrugated bottom and a transverse ridge, upon which cigarettes may be rested. Further cigarette rests may be provided by a channelled rim around the edge of the tray. The bottom of the tray may be removable so as to grip the foil against ledges on which the bottom rests. Also holes may be formed in the bottom, the foil being perforated where it extends over the holes. The tray may be grooved exteriorly to receive an elastic rubber band for retaining the foil in position.
