Abstract

752,490. Ratchet gearing. NORTHROP AIRCRAFT. Inc. April 22, 1954 [June 8, 1953], No. 11638/54. Class 80(3) An electrically actuated ratchet device for obtaining stepped movements of a shaft in response to electrical impulses comprises a solenoid coil 15. Fig. 4, an axially movable armature 9. an inclined groove 20 and ball 21 for converging the axial movements of the armature into angular ones a rotary sleeve 22 and pawl carrier disc 23 secured to the armature a driving pawl '25 on the disc 23 and a driven disc 32 secured to the driven shaft 13 and having holes 33 adapted to be engaged by the driving pawl 25. After each actuating movement the armature 19, sleeve 22, disc 23 and pawl 25 are adapted to be returned by a spring 30. Back and front cam stops 28 and 29 are secured to the fixed plate 16 which hold the pawl 25 out of, or move it into, engagement with the driven disc 32, these stops projecting into' an arcuate groove 24 in the carrier disc 23 in which the pawl 25 is mounted. Two such devices may be arranged one on each side of the driven disc 32 and may be adapted to drive the disc and its shaft 13 in the same or opposite directions.
