Abstract
752,479. Slicing tobacco. FRENCH, L. ST. J. Nov. 19, 1954 [March 26, 1954], No. 8829/54. Class 28(2). A plug or twist of tobacco placed on a base cover 11 is sliced by a cutting edge 10 moved vertically down by side levers 23 bridged by a handle 27. The cut slices fall on to a lower base 3. The plug, in adjustable guides, is forced against a thickness gauge 12 by a spring pressed pusher 32. The knife 9 is slotted and is adjustably clamped for height by a wing nut 15 to a sliding plate 7 which may have a handle at its top for direct reciprocation. The slide passes through a hole 8 in the plate 7, the slice thickness gauge 12 bent over and secured through the hole. Springs return the knife to upper position. The framing consists of side plates 2 each with a slot 6 to receive and guide the edges of the plate 7. The machine may be adapted for power drive.
