Cutting slices in succession.-In a slicing-apparatus comprising a guide for the knife, a holder or support along which the material is fed to the knife, and an adjustable stop-member which is pressed down by the knife against the action of a spring, a space is provided beneath the holder and the stopmember is so arranged that the slice, after it is cut, falls sideways from the stop-member. As shown in Figs. 1, 6, a holder 3 is supported from the base 1 by brackets 2, and the knife guides 5 are carried on a strip 4 mounted on the base. The guides 5 are joined at the top by a strip 6. The stop 8 is formed by bending up a plate spring 7 which is slotted at 11, 13 to receive a pin 12 and a screw 14, thereby permitting longitudinal adjustment of the plate 7 and stop 8 by a handle 17. The spring 7 has an index mark and the base 1 has a corresponding slice-thickness scale. A block 9. of wood or other soft material, is removably attached to the spring 7 by pins 10. As shown in Fig. 3, the block 9 is positioned at one side of the slice which is thus allowed to fall sideways. The knife is sharpened, according to whether the operator is right or left-handed, either at one side or the other, and a removable stud may be provided at the end of the knife to prevent accidental withdrawal from the guides. The outer guide 5 may be omitted, in which case the knife is kept pressed against the remaining guide. The holder may be arranged obliquely to the cutting plane, and the stop member may be hingedly connected with a shaft near the cutting point so that the downward movement of the strip is increased.
