Abstract

751,548. Electrostatic filters. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 16, 1954 [June 24, 1953], No. 17642/54. Class 39 (1). In the ionizer of a two-stage electrostatic precipitator each discharging electrode located between a pair of large diameter non-discharging electrodes 21 consists of a pair of fine wires 18, located sufficiently close together for wire vibration to be minimised. The average spacing between the wires 18 is less than a “ inch, and the wires are preferably not greater than 0.005 inch in diameter. The wires are constituted by a single wire looped over the support 17. The wires may be spaced apart in the direction of gas flow or in the transverse direction. The wires may be allowed to twist up to 90 degrees.
