Abstract

751,545. Fuel-injection pumps. BOSCH GES., R. May 28, 1954 [June 3, 1953], No. 15803/54. Class 102(1). A delivery valve for a fuel-injection pump comprises a movable valve member 8 having a cut-away portion 23 which co-operates with a cut-away portion 24 in the valve guide to form a restriction in the path of the fuel delivered past the seat 15 and through passages 19, 20 and 22 and influence the lift of the valve as the engine speed increases and permit an increasing quantity of fuel to escape through passage 25 to the pump inlet as the groove 18 registers with the passage 25 ; the restriction is varied by rotating the valve by the rod 13. To prevent drip at the nozzle, the delivery pipe may be unloaded by providing an overlap a of the surfaces separating the cut-away portions 23, 24 when the valve is closed and a by-pass, comprising a passage 31 and a restricted passage 32, to permit delivery of a small amount of fuel when the cut-away portions 23, 24 are not in register. Fig. 8 shows a modified construction in which the seat 35 is at the upper end of the valve member which has a cut-away portion 47 cooperating with the cut-away portion 42 in the valve guide to form the restriction and also with the passage 25 leading to the pump inlet. A piston surface 46 is provided on the valve member and fits closely the bore 2 to unload the delivery line. A flat 49 is provided at the lower part of the valve member and when the valve member is lifted, it forms a second restriction with the bore 7 to render the valve more sensitive.
