A garage comprises a shell, e.g. of reinforced concrete, including a cylindrical outer wall 1, a plane floor and a flat continuous ceiling joined respectively to the base and top edge of the wall 1, and a plurality of spaced partitions 3, extending radially inwardly from the wall, joined to the wall 1, ceiling and floor and terminating a fixed distance from the wall to define an internal manoeuvring area 5, at least one opening 6 communicating with the area 5 from the exterior of the shell. The garage, which may be underground, may have several storeys with partitions 3, adjacent storeys being interconnected by an external ramp 7. The shell may comprise several concentric walls, e.g. three, partitions extending from each wall into each of the two annular inter-wall areas so formed, which are the manoeuvring areas. There is an opening in each wall, the innermost wall enclosing a workshop. The building may be used as an air raid shelter or as a warehouse.
