749,424. Winches. BROWN PRECISION EQUIPMENT (PROPRIETARY), Ltd., D. Oct. 7, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953; May 15, 1954No. 28940/54. Class 78 (5). A cable reversing mechanism comprises a frame 1 carrying a wheel 3 adapted to be rotated by contact with a moving cable, said wheel being connected through a speed-reducing mechanism 4 to move one or more striking members 6, 7 relative to an actuating device 8, 9, the latter having a snap action and being positioned in the path of said striking member or members and being adapted to change the direction of rotation of the reversible driving motor of a winch. As shown, the cable 17 (not shown) passes round pulleys 10, 3, the pulley 3 driving disc 5 through gearing 4 whereby fingers 6, 7 engage respectively snap-action switches 8, 9 to continuously reverse the cable. Additionally, to allow for cable stretch in the case of a scraper winch, the disc 5 is spring-clutched to gearing 4 to permit slip, there being a block 21 adjustably mounted on disc 5, and a stop-screw 23 adjustably mounted on frame 1, so that the slip of disc 5 relative to pulley 3 caused by impact of block 21 on screw 23 compensates for the greater stretch of the cable in the one direction of movement as compared with the stretch in the opposite direction.
