749,170. Double glazing. TETTERODE, F. VAN, and GRUIL, J. DE, [trading as GLASINDUSTRIE F. VAN TETTERODE]. Nov. 8, 1954 [Nov. 7, 1953], No. 32315/54. Class 20(3). A panel consisting of two or more parallel spaced panes 1, 2, provided along the edges with a flexible sealing member 4 and a flexible spacer 3 forming a frame, a hygroscopic material 6 being fitted between the sealing member 4 and spacer 3, and the whole unit being enclosed in a groove of a frame, is characterized in that the sealing member 4 consists of a compressible material such as sponge or foam rubber, and the spacer of a porous and fibrous mass. As shewn, the spacer 3 consists of asbestos fibres impregnated with a metal oxide and bound, mainly along the sides, with castor oil. The sealing member 4 consists of sponge or foam rubber slightly filled with beeswax and is provided with a recess 5 containing the hygroscopic material 6 which may be silica gel enclosed in an open-work or porous plastic envelope 7. A sealing buffer 8 of bound asbestos fibres and a leaden encasement 9 complete the assembly.
