In an automatically operating control arrangement for a pair of grinding rollers adapted for rotation at the same or different speeds, the rollers are driven through a freely acting differential gear of any known form, the driving shaft and the rollers of the pair each being connected, either directly or through a step-down drive in each case, with a different element of the differential gear. The differential gear may be disposed inside one of the rollers. In the form shown, the grinding rollers 1, 2 are driven at different speeds through a differential gear comprising sun and planet gears 9, 11, respectively and an internal ring gear 6 which forms part of a casing 7 secured to a drive pulley 5. The sun gear 9 is keyed on the shaft 8 of the fast roller 1 and the planet wheels 11 are secured to a carrier 10 freely rotatable about the shaft 8, the shaft 13 of the slow roller 2 being driven from the carrier 10 by means of a chain 14 passing over a sprocket wheel 12 provided on the boss of the carrier. The feed rollers 16, 17 are driven from a belt pulley on the other end of the shaft 13. The gap between the grinding rollers is adjustable and the adjustment is judged from a revolution counter on the grinding rollers, which may also be directly adjusted according to the ouput of ground material.
