Abstract
1,140,645. Mounting of carding drum. H. F. BOVENSIEPEN. 21 Sept., 1967 [8 Oct., 1966], No. 42991/67. Heading DIN. The carding drum 2 of a carding engine is rotatably mounted on a stationary shaft 10 by means of self aligning bearings 12, 13 and 12a, 13a. The shaft is mounted in further self aligning bearings 21, 21a in the carding engine frame 11. Inner races 12 and 21 are rigidly connected to the shaft while inner races 12a and 21a are axially movable relative to the shaft. A belt pulley 16 driven by way of belt 20 by an electric motor 17 is mounted directly on the drum. The worker rollers 5 may be similarly mounted in stationary shafts. These shafts may have eccentric portions 24 at the position of each bearing such that on controlled rotation of the shaft 18 the gap between rollers 5 and drum 2 may be accurately adjusted when the engine is not in use. A disc 27 indicates the angular position of the eccentric portions.
