Class 118(2) [Also in Group XVIII] A timing device comprises a settable pointer driven over a dial through an escapement a minute spindle, an alarm spring and escapement, a cam mounted on the minute spindle, a control lever spring urged so as normally to lock the alarm escapement, the pointer being so located on the minute spindle that when it is in its zero position the cam displaces the control lever to release the alarm escapement. The main spring 17, Fig. 1, drives the spindle 14 through gears 18, 19 controlled by a lever escapement (not shown). The pinion 19 is mounted on the spindle 14 through a slip coupling. A pointer 36 fixed to the spindle 14 moves over a sixty-minute scale 13 on a dial 12 at the front of a case 10. The alarm spring 28 drives the escape wheel 31 which controls the hammer and pallet lever 32. A bell-crank lever 22 pivoted on a spindle 23 is urged by a spring 24 so that its end 22a normally locks a lever 25 fixed to the hammer lever 32. In use the pointer is set clockwise or counter-clockwise to the appropriate gradization on the scale 13. The pointer 36 is then rotated back to zero by the main spring under the control of the escapement. When the pointer reaches zero a cam projection 21 on a gear 20 fixed to the spindle 14 moves the lever 22 to release the lever 25 and free the alarm escapement.
