Abstract

748,314. Retractive switches. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Oct. 26, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1953], No. 31057/53. Class 39(5) A multi-way switch comprises a plurality of pairs of fixed contacts arranged on a common pitch circle, a tumbler normally lying along the axis of said circle and tiltable to bridge any one of said pairs, and resilient means operable to tilt said tumbler, the resilient means automatically restoring the tumbler when released. In the arrangement shown, the tumbler 8 is of square section and has a reduced portion 9 engaging a square recess 6 in a base 2. The tumbler carries contacts 12 arranged to bridge the pairs of fixed contacts 4, and has a recess 11 engaged by a member 20. A spring 23 is located between a shoulder 21 on the member 20 and an operating thimble 17 which is surrounded by a dust and moisture proof cores 24. The thimble may be pivoted in any direction about its bent-back inner end 18 thereby straining spring 23 so as to tilt the tumbler 8 about' a shoulder 7 thereon. In the Provisional Specification, the recess 11 is formed in the member 20.
