Abstract
748,309. Side-delivery rakes. VAN DER LELY N.V., C. Oct. 22, 1953 [Nov. 4, 1952; Jan. 16, 1953], No. 29173/53. Class 6 (3). A side-delivery rake comprises one or more rotary side-delivery members 14, 15 arranged in a mobile frame 5 so as to contact the crop but not the ground, the members being followed by one or more rotary ground-contacting rakes 19, 20. Both the side-delivery and the raking members may comprise oblique wheels of the same diameter, the axles 6, 7 being cranked at 10, 11, so that the raking members run on the ground. The members 19, 20 have peripheral teeth 21, 22 by which they are driven through ground-contact. The members 14, 15 may have smooth peripheries and be driven either by ground-contact or by a land-wheel (not shown). The machine is pushed by a tractor 1 and the members may be staggered so. that the material delivered by the foremost rake 19 is passed to the second side-delivery member 15. In a modification (Fig. 5) the raking member comprises a spiked roller 48 rotating about an axis perpendicular to the axes of the wheels 45, 46. In a further modification (Fig. 6) the sidedelivery and ground-contacting rakes may be mounted as rows of tines 74, 75, 76 on common rotary bodies 73, these bodies being of conical shape so that the foremost tines 74 are out of direct ground-contact and constitute the cropengaging members whilst the tines 75, 76 constitute the raking elements.
