Abstract

3 - Phenyl - 2 - phenylimino - 5 - o - sulphobenzal-4-thiazolidone (sodium salt) is prepared by refluxing together 3-phenyl-2-phenylimino-4 - thiazolidone and o - sulphobenzaldehyde sodium salt in methanol containing piperidine. 5 - (4 - Methoxy - 3 - sulphobenzal) - 3 - phenyl-2 - phenylimino - 4 - thiazolidone (sodium salt) is similarly prepared. 5 - [2:4 - Bis - (carbmethoxymethoxy) - benzal] - 3 - phenyl - 2 - phenylimino - 4 - thiazolidone is prepared by refluxing together 3-phenyl-2 - phenylimino - 4 - thiazolidone and 2:4-bis-carboxymethoxybenzaldehyde in methanol containing piperidine. Hydrolysis with alcoholic sodium hydroxide yields the sodium salt of 5 - (2:4 - bis - carboxymethoxybenzal) - 3 - phenyl-2-phenylimino-4-thiazolidone. 5 - [3 - (3 - Chlorosulphonylbenzamido) - benzal] - 3 - phenyl - 2 - phenylimino - 4 - thiazolidone is prepared by refluxing together 5-(3-aminobenzal) - 3 - phenyl - 2 - phenylimino - 4-thiazolidone and m-chlorosulphonylbenzoyl chloride in dioxane, and yields, on hydrolysis with alcoholic sodium hydroxide, the sodium salt of 3-phenyl-2-phenylimino-5-[3-(3-sulphobenzamido) -benzal]-4-thiazolidone. 5 - (3 - Aminobenzal) - 3 - phenyl - 2 - phenylimino-4-thiazolidone is prepared by reducing with hydrogen in presence of dioxane, sodium carbonate, and Raney nickel 5-(3-nitrobenzal)-3 - phenyl - 2 - phenylimino - 4 - thiazolidone, itself prepared by refluxing together 3-phenyl-2-phenylimino-4-thiazolidone, m-nitrobenzaldehyde, methanol, and piperidine.
