Abstract

N - Alkyl:N-(b -methylsulphonamidoethyl)-p-aminophenols are prepared by treating an N-alkyl-p-aminophenol with b -methylsulphonamidoethyl bromide, e.g. in the presence of ethanol and sodium bicarbonate. N-Methyl: N-(b -methylsulphonamidoethyl)-p-aminophenol is prepared by refluxing together N-methyl-p-aminophenol hemisulphate, b -methylsulphonamidoethyl bromide, sodium bicarbonate, and ethanol. b -Methylsulphonamidoethyl bromide is prepared by adding methanesulphonyl chloride and aqueous sodium hydroxide simultaneously to an aqueous solution of b -bromoethylamine hydrobromide.
