[Also in Group XXXIV] In a roller mill comprising a fixed roller 1 and a yielding roller 2, thrust bars 7 are pivotally attached to the lateral bearing plates 4 of the yielding roller and the free end of each thrust bar engages with one arm of a cranked lever 5, the levers 5 being fixed on a common shaft 14 supported in the mill frame, while the other arms of the lever 5 are supported on springs 17 or the like. The levers 5 are connected by a tie bolt 18 which engages a bore 11 in the head 8 of each thrust bar, each bore 11 opening into a slot 12. Each thrust bar head is provided on its underside with a tappet 10 which co-acts with a cam surface 20 provided on the mill frame and on its upper side with a cam surface 9 with which co-acts a roller 19 on the mill frame. Each thrust bar head is also provided with a guide pin 13 which normally lies with clearance in a recess in the upper end 21 of the cranked lever 15. The fixed roller is adjustable. The bores and associated slots may be formed in the cranked levers instead of in the thrust bar heads, the latter being interconnected by a pin. The guide pin may be formed as a shearing pin to act as a safety member. During normal operation,. the roller 2 rests against a fixed stop 6 and each thrust bar head 8 rests with its bore 11 on the pin 18. Should a greater yielding motion become necessary owing to the presence of an unbreakable object in the grinding gap, the thrust bar head is raised by the tappet 10 mounting the cam surface 20 causing the pin 18 to pass into the slot 12 so that the thrust bar can move outwardly by the length of the slot. On the crushing gap becoming free again, the springs 17 force the mechanism back to its initial position, this motion being assisted by the cam surface 9 running on the roller 19.
