Crushers with vibrating jaws. - Relates to stone-crushers of the jaw type in which the movable jaw has a compound motion, being pivotally mounted at its lower end and operated by an eccentric. The movable jaw is adjustably supported at its lower end by inclined guides and is operated by toggle levers connected and arranged so as to produce an elliptical vibrating action with a toggle movement at the upper part and a sharp knapping action at the lower part of the jaw, two blows being struck for each revolution of the crank-shaft. The base or back plate 13 supporting the movable jaw 12 is connected to the eccentric shaft 18 by upper and lower crossed toggle levers 15, 16, the lever 15 being connected at one end to the upper end of the jaw carrier 13 and at its other end to the lower end of the bracket 17 on the shaft 18 while the lever 16 is connected at one end to the lower end of the carrier 13 and at its other end to the upper end of the bracket 17. A roller or like bearing on the lower part of the jaw 12 or the carrier 13 runs in inclined guides 14 in the framing 11. The lever 16 is made in two parts connected together by pins or bolts 16<a> so that by inserting varying thicknesses of packing 19 the opening at the bottom end of the jaws can be varied. Two main tension levers or bars 21 are connected one on each side of the framing adjacent the fixed jaw 10 at one end, and at their other ends to a cross-spindle 22 at the lower end of the bracket 17. A toggle member acting against the end of the frame, or a roller sliding against a steel track may be employed instead of the bars 21. An adjustable friction clutch is associated with the fly-wheel to protect the machine from damage in the event of a piece of steel &c. being present in the material to be crushed.
