Crushers with vibrating jaws; cracking nuts. -In a machine for cracking or opening cohune and other nuts, the reciprocating jaw 12 carried by a slide 9 has a vertical face and is moved in an horizontal guideway 11 by an eccentric 7 on the driving- shaft 3 bearing against rollers 8 on the end of the slide, while the obliquely-arranged jaw 13 is pivoted at 14 and supported by a cam 33 which is operated by link-work from the shaft 3 to allow the jaw 13 to move away from the jaw 12 so that the cracked nuts can fall through. The slide is'drawn back by springs 10, and its backward movement is limited by a bar 38 adjustable by means of bolts 36. The nuts are fed from a hopper by an endless chain or band 19 driven by chain gearing 24 from the shaft 3 and having transverse bars with pins 21 which work in slots in the wall 22 of the hopper. The cam 33 is mounted on a shaft 32 carrying an arm 31 connected by a rod 29 to one arm 28 of a bellcrank lever, the other arm 27 of which carries a roller 26 bearing against a cam 6 on the shaft 3.
