746,082. Belt fastenings. MASTABAR BELT FASTENER CO., Ltd. Dec. 8, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1953], No. 34165/53, Addition to 634,028. Class 80(1) In a joint for a transmission or conveyer belt wherein metal fasteners clinched into the belt-ends are intermeshed and connected by a, transverse bar threaded therethrough, the inserted resilient sealing strips of the main invention are dispensed with and the limbs 12, Fig. 1, of each fastener are bridged by an element 11 of sponge rubber or the like bonded thereto so that when the fasteners are clinched into the belt-ends the elements 11 are deformed to contact each other and form a continuous sealing strip each side of the transverse bar. The single element 11 on each fastener may be replaced by two parallel pillars of sponge rubber so that after clinching the fasteners the pillars form tubular sealing strips. In a modification a joint comprising metal fasteners interconnected by a bar 14, Fig. 8, is sealed by upper and lower elements 17 of sponge rubber having twin rows of tapering pegs 16 which fit between the fasteners to hold the elements in place.
