Abstract

744,813. Valves. THOMAS & BALDWINS, Ltd., R., and TINSLEY, R. April 10, 1952 [March 2, 1951], No. 5080/51. Class 135. A valve h, suitable for regulating the flow of viscous fluids, is actuated by a piston b, diaphragm, &c., included in the flow path of the regulated fluid and across which is established a differential pressure produced by passing the regulated fluid through a choke tube l, orifice, nozzle, &c., the valve being urged to open by the difference of the forces due to a weight, and to a spring acting on the weight, and to close by the differential pressure. As shown, the weight is constituted by the weight of the piston and the spring c is a tension spring adjustable by the handwheel f and screw e. The spring may be replaced by a compression spring supporting the piston, and part of the weight of the piston may be relieved by a weight at the end of a beam on a movable fulcrum. The valve h is shown as a ball valve actuated through a crank i, but it could be a piston valve. The device for producing the differential pressure may be included in the piston itself. A steam jacket n is employed for use with viscous liquids.
