Abstract
744,725. Moulds for casting concrete. DUROX INTERNATIONAL SOC. ANON. Dec. 7, 1953 [Dec. 9, 1952], No. 34029/53. Class 87 (2). Concrete blocks are cast in a mould with a loose bottom and in which a supporting band along the edges of the side walls or the bottom forms a groove for receiving lubricant to seal the gap between the walls and the bottom. With the bottom 3 resting on the supporting band 2 the concrete mixture is poured into the mould up to the correct level and the mould is moved to a curing chamber, where the material partially sets and fills the mould. The mould is then conveyed on a belt 7 to below a cutting device 8 comprising saw wires or cutting blades and vertically-guided lifters 9 rise to engage holes in bracing girders 4 on the bottom 3, which it lifts so that the concrete is cut into sections, the walls 1 remaining stationary. To assist the moulded block to leave the walls they slope slightly outwards and to ensure that they do not rise with the concrete, stops 10 are interposed. The bottom is then lowered again and the mould containing the cut concrete is conveyed to the hardening station. The supporting band 2 is so shaped that a groove is left between it and the wall 1 into which oil, introduced before the casting operation, runs off the walls of the mould and forms a. seal. In a modification, Fig. 5, the mould walls 13 rest on an angle-iron 12 welded round the edge of the bottom 11 and they are sloped inwards slightly. The oil seal is then in the space between the walls 13 and the edges of the bottom 11 and an additional outside rubber packing 19, Fig. 6, is fitted. When lifters 16 rise they engage brackets 15 projecting from the lower edges of the walls which therefore rise and leave the concrete on the bottom 11, which may be transported on a carriage 14. Brackets 17 also project from the upper edges of the walls, by means of which the walls may be conveyed away in a lifting contrivance 18. The outside bottom edges of the walls may carry rubber packing.
