Abstract

426,338. Moulding walls in situ. McALPINE, SIR M., 50, Pall Mall, London. Sept. 28, 1933, No. 26768. [Class 20 (ii)] Relates to a method of shuttering for the construction of the concrete walls of a nest of tanks, silos, or the like, of the kind in which interlocked segmental relaxable shuttering members are provided on a supporting frame, are fixed in position for the casting operation of a portion of the height of the walls, and are relaxed or moved laterally in pairs away from the walls when the concrete is sufficiently set, after which the frame with all the shuttering members is fifted to a position further upward where a similar casting operation is performed. According to the invention, the lifting of the frame is performed by jacks carried by vertical reinforcing members built in the walls, in a manner known in connection with other kinds of shuttering. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, shuttering segments e, f are carried by a frame d, and are connected in opposite pairs by turn buckles g, the gaps between the segments being filled by pieces h retractable by bolts i. The frame d is supported by a screw jack c carried by wall reinforcing members a. In a modification, the shuttering members are connected to the supporting frame by parallel linkworks and are retracted by cams. In another modification, filling pieces h are avoided by arranging adjacent shuttering members to meet at corners and to be retracted in succession. In still another modification, Fig. 8, in addition to the main shuttering members f for the inside of the silos similar to those of Figs. 1 and 2, additional concave shuttering members f<1> are provided for the recesses between the silos.
