Abstract

744,713. Magnetrons. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1953 [Oct. 29, 1952], No. 29522/53. Class 39 (1). In a magnetron comprising an even number of anode segments lying on a cylindrical surface and-interconnected by straps to form a resonant system, each strap interconnects two segments which, the segments being numbered circumferentially in sequence, have a number difference of an odd number larger than one and smaller than half the number of segments, i.e. for twelve segments a number difference of three or as shown, five. Figs. 4 and 5 show top and bottom views. The segments and straps are connected together in cyclic order to form a single system: 1 a 6 b 11 c 4 d 9 e 2 f 7 9 g 12 h 5 j 10 k 3 l 8 m 1. With a number difference of three, three separate systems are formed. The length of each strap plus the electrical lengths of the segments connected to it is equal to one half wavelength at the operating frequency. Mode-locking straps may be added to the anode, e.g. midway of the two ends. The straps may be rectilinear elements overlapping one another, or part-helical elements on the outside of the anode. Strap connections for ten and sixteen segment anodes are also described. Specifications 675,176 and 676,914 are referred to.
