743,962. Cutting-machines. CORAH, (ST. MARGARET), Ltd., N., [formerly CORAH & SONS, Ltd., N.], and HARRIS, T. Feb. 9, 1955 [Nov. 27,1953], No. 33015/53. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] A machine for cutting through waste courses adjoining a welt in knitted articles, e.g. in the separation of stockings and socks knitted in string formation, comprises a knife 12 rotatable about a fixed axis in a casing formed by a cover 2 secured to a base plate 1, with a part of the cutting edge of the knife extending through an opening 44 in the cover, and a pair of fixed jaws 33, 37 which are spaced apart to form a guideway gap through which the waste courses 42 are passed to the knife, the width of the guideway gap being such that it will not allow the welt 41 to pass transversely therethrough. The edges 36, 40 of the jaws are chamfered. The jaw 33 is adjustable vertically, to vary the width of the guideway gap, by means of a rotatable eccentric 34 and a fixed pin 35 which passes through a slot 351 in the jaw. The jaw 37 may also be vertically adjustable. The severed articles are placed in a receptacle 43. The cutting edge 13 of the knife is sharpened by means of a honing device which comprises a pair of rotatable abrasive discs 18 mounted on a frame 15 which is rockable about a pivot 17 by means of a manually-operable spring-loaded pin 28.
