A device for connecting a down spout with a soil pipe comprises, as shown in Fig. 2, a strainer 14 adapted to be fitted into the end of the soil pipe 11, a sleeve 21 for securing at 22 to the down spout 10, and a plate 23 to cover the end of the soil pipe except for a hole through which the sleeve passes. In alternative forms, described and illustrated, the circular screen 16 is replaced by conical or cylindrical screens, and as shown in Fig. 9 a cylindrical screen 82 mounted in the cup-shaped end 80 of the soil pipe has a conical strainer 85 mounted on it, and carries an upper plate 90 to which the cover plate 97 is secured at 98. The sleeve 93 is secured at 96 to the cover plate, and adjustably engages the down spout 94 at 95, an annular rib 99 and groove 92 with a sealing gasket 100 for the plates 90 and 97 being provided.
