Abstract
743,801. Waveguide mode-transformers. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON), Ltd. May 10, 1954 [May 15, 1953], No. 13738/53. Class 40 (8). A waveguide modetransformer for transforming the H10 mode in a rectangular-section waveguide into the H11 mode in a circular-section waveguide comprises a transition section having circular and rectangular passages 3, 4 whose dimensions correspond to those of the circular and rectangular section guides and which are joined by a frustoconical passage 5, the axes of the three passages being in alignment and the walls of the passages meeting along curved lines 6, 7. In order to reduce reflection, the passage 5 may depart slightly from the straightsided conical shape. The section may be split in an axial plane normal to the broad face of the rectangular passage 4 into two halves 1a, 1b, Fig. 5, which are relatively displaced in an axial direction by a distance of #/4. The transition section may be made by machining or by the electrodeposition of copper on a mandrel.
