Abstract

The rotary joint electrically connects two parts rotating relative to one another about a shared axis and consists of an opto-electronic coupler with its light source fixed to one part and its photodetector fixed to the other. The light source and photodetector are located on the joint axis and they are encircled respectively by the primary and secondary windings of a transformer that provides inductive coupling between the two parts. The components are embedded in plastics blocks.
