Abstract

1395073 Two-part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 18-Aug 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 38720/72 Heading H2E A multi-connector module comprises at least two two-contact connectors, means within an insulating body for interconnecting first contacts of each connector and a metallic coating on the surface of the body interconnecting the second contacts of the connectors. The invention is embodied in an adaptor for connecting twelve concentric two-contact inputs to two concentric two-contact outputs and twelve single-contact inputs to three single-contact outputs. The concentric inputs 39 are arranged in a ring and the inner contacts of all except 39<SP>1</SP> are connected together and to the inner contact of output 42 by swaging on to a metallic ring. The ring is moulded into an aromatic polysulphone body 55 which is then electrolessly plated with Ni and then electrolytically with Au so as to connect together the outer contacts of connectors 39. The metallic coating may instead be Cu and Ni or Fe and Au, and may be extended to form the outer contact of connectors 39. A further concentric input 39<SP>1</SP> is not connected to the metallic ring but is connected instead to a second concentric output 42<SP>1</SP>. Ten of the single-contact inputs 70 connected by a metallic ring 71 to a single output 72 are located within the ring of concentric inputs by aromatic polysulphone spacers 18, 20 which also locate the remaining single-contact connectors 14, 16. The assembly is completed by aromatic polysulphone mouldings 22, 24 and an outer casing (26, Fig. 4, not shown).
