743,636. Casting-processes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 14, 1953 [Dec. 17, 1952], No. 34764/53. Class 83 (1). In a, method of casting anisotropic permanent magnets from an iron-base alloy containing Ni, A1 and Co in which, during solidification, the magnet-body between the two pole-faces is surrounded by a chemically-exothermic material 2 and preferably at least one of the polefaces is cooled as by a metal chill plate 1, the material 2 is ignited, prior to the molten alloy being poured into the moulding space 5, by molten metal poured into a space 4 surrounding the material. The space 4 may be filled with the molten alloy itself which, after filling the space, runs over the upper edge of the material 2 to fill the space 5. Apertures 6 may be provided in the material 2 so that the alloy flows into the moulding space 5 before the space 4 is filled. Specification 661,727 is referred to.
