Abstract

743,471. Change speed gear. MASSEYHARRIS-FERGUSON (SALES), Ltd., [formerly FERGUSON, Ltd. H.]. June 8, 1951 [June 9, 19501, No. 14517/50. Class 80(2) [Also in Group XXXI] Relates to a tractor driving arrangement (see Group XXXI), in which the output shaft 9 of a conventional sliding change speed gear is connected to a wheel driving shaft 22 by an epicyclic gear 16. The annulus 17 of the gear is connected to the shaft 9, and the planets 18 are mounted in a carrier 19 having a splined connection 19A to the shaft 22 and carrying pins 20. The pins 20 are operable by a hand control (not shown), to engage recesses in the annulus 17 to give a direct drive. The sun 26 of the gear carries a brake drum 26A, a brake band 28 co-operating therewith being operable to cause the epicyclic gear to operate either as a clutch or as an additional gear stage to the change speed gear. In a modification the brake is adapted to operate on the annulus whilst the sun wheel and planet carrier form the input and output elements of the gear.
